Workout Log & Update

Had a bad head cold last 2 days. Felt much better today. Got my truck back and started ripping out the old interior. Its cold and rainy and I worked in it maybe 2 hours. I am starting to feel the benefits from the mild exercise. My mood is better and overall I really feel good!

Tonight I did sprints 4-6 mph for 1-2 mins then walk at a 2mph for a couple mins and back up to a sprint. Its part of the conditioning program I found. Tonights "jog" was 2.0 miles and 36 minutes. I probably could have pushed a bit harder but I dont need another injury going too fast again.

Here is my updated log for today:

Hey whats up???

Hey there! Well I am back on the path so to speak. From my last entry we decided to take the house off the market. This meant I could move all of my exercise equipment back inside. Its been in the house now about   2 weeks. In that time I went from running a small 1.2 miles back up to a full 5k. My weight has been coming off more now and in the last 3 days I have lost 2.2 pounds. Because I sat most of the winter I need to burn off 75 pounds before June 30 (my birthday). It can be done!

I have not been blogging because I decided last fall to make a leap into a new sector of my business. I am building (from scratch) a food truck.  It is out getting a new suspension and when it returns it will be a full time job welding and building the interior. It doesn't have much to do with weight loss other than its going to be alot of manual labor for at least a month and a half. So if I am not running I can expect to at least be working hard. I will try to find more time to blog. It seems over the winter this site has picked up a great deal. That is cool and inspiring to me!

Thanks for sticking with me.

Here is a mockup I did of my food truck (Its still in the rough stages).

I'm BACK! (again)

YMCA logo in the United States and CanadaImage via Wikipedia
Ok well its been a crazy 4 months. We decided to sell our house. We live in a nice quiet neighborhood with the best school system in the whole state. We thought ( and our realtor advised) we shouldnt be on the market too long coming in so much under appraisal. So we put all of the exercise equipment out in the garage and proceeded to bury it for what we assumed to be a 2-3 week stint. Here we are 4 months later and I have not exercised in that whole time!

So I gained back 20 pounds. For Christmas my wife bought me a 2 month membership to the local Y. I went there today expecting that I might be a bit out of shape... wow was I ever.

I had been running 4 miles in about 50 minutes. Today I barely did 1.5 miles. Also I felt like the fat guy making new years resolutions on a treadmill stereotype the whole time I was in there. Its not a new years resolution to me. Its merely a continuation of what I started 6 months ago.

The nice part is they have a child care center that watches my daughter for the whole time I am working out. This is better than when I worked out at home for sure.

Next step on the journey complete... more to go!

Workout log for today: New Record!

New record for todays run. I did 5K in 44:00! This is the fastest I have ever done a 5k. Overall was a nice run. I can feel I am getting stronger. I can actually do speed of 6 now for at least 3 minutes before I slow it back down to a 4.4 or 4.5.

Where have I been?

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 10: 'Crazy Legs' Conti p...Image by Getty Images
I am still workin! My weight has been hovering at about 252-254 for the last few weeks. I have been exercising still but my eating habits have been less than stellar. This is because I have been doing alot of work for my business and I am eating on the go. Not taking the time to do my food intake into the Body Bugg site. Suffice it to say if I had not been exercising I might be even heavier!!!

I am pretty much done with the catering gigs for now and I will be able to more closely monitor what is going on.  Back to blogging more often.

Thanks,

- Joe

Todays exercise updated stats

NEW RECORD for me! 5k in 46 minutes, I walked the rest of the way. Very cool! I am so surprised that I can actually jog for the majority of the time. I do have to walk every 20 minutes or so for a couple of minutes but I start right back up again and push forward. Tomorrow will be off day and Saturday I am doing a catering event so I will be working hard and will probably burn more energy than the run does ;).

Good Run

happyImage by onkel_wart via Flickr
Just a quick note today:

Yesterday I ran for 55 minutes. Well that has been my norm for over a month now. The real news is that I literally RAN for 32 minutes at 4.1mph. I had to walk for a bit but then I ran again! Amazing how much I have been able to gain in such a short time. Just for giggles I weighed myself this morning and I was 251! Only 2 pounds to get below 250.  I am at 29 pounds sofar in my loss! Very exciting stuff. I wont weigh myself again until next week. I am hoping for a big surprise then.

Still on track!

Catering picoplato (4)Image via Wikipedia
Just checking in. My new business has kind of overwhelmed me these last couple of weeks. I started a catering business in May. It has been slow going up until now. I know, having a food service company while trying to lose weight.

Well the good news is I am a vegetarian. Hard core one at that and I am also slightly allergic to chocolate. Which means I have a very strong will against eating what I don't want to. Problem is from time to time I do want to eat potato chips and dip.

I was feeling down because I was not exercising and the last weight I did 11 days ago I actually gained 2 pounds and was up to 258 again. I weighed myself this morning and I am back on track! I am at 252 and still on track to lose 155 by June 30,2011. I just need to find the time to do some slow walks at high incline on my incline trainer. I got the Jillian Michaels one about 2 years ago and up until now ( around February this year) I had not used it too much.

So all is right with the world, at least for today. Its a war of inches and I just advanced against the enemy.

Here is my treadmill:

Checking in

Sad monkeyImage by Photocapy via Flickr
Just checking in. I had a bit of a scare after last weeks 4 mile run. The next day I woke up and it hurt to breathe. It was during deep breaths only.

My whole trunk was sore though but I thought I should go to the doctor. By the time I went it was after my Dr's office had closed so I went to after hours care. It took 2 hours to be seen and when they did the PA said I had pluracy, basically where the lungs are rubbing on the surrounding tissue. Its a pretty serious condition. He prescribed me a steroid and also some antibiotics because the steroid would lower my immune system. Great.

The real truth was I was just sore and did not have pluracy. Instead I was just sick and sore from the run. I never took the meds because its too iffy. I am just going to take it easy for a few days and then hit it.

Kind of disappointing that every time I go for it my body rebells in some way. If I would quit getting sick I could burn the calories. Maybe its too much too soon? Who knows.

255!

BodyBugg armbandImage by size8jeans via Flickr
I have been very busy lately but I needed to stop in and give an update. I officially hit 100 pounds left today. So exciting! This means I have lost 25 pounds since I started this back about 2 weeks before my birthday. I have lost 9 pounds since I got my bodybugg 3 weeks ago. I am right on track to keep the 2 pounds per week up for the end goal. It seems slow but its what the recommend. I will put some new pics up maybe on Monday next week. I am very busy with my business for the next couple weeks.
Here is the bodybugg by the manufacturer Apex, same one as the Bugg basically but a little cheaper. I got the Bodybugg before I knew of this one:

New jogging record!

Dog running on the wet sand during an ultra-lo...Image by mikebaird via Flickr
I did 3.65 miles (5.87km) in 61 minutes which is the longest distance I have gone. The best news is I broke my old 5k record. I did it in 52 minutes my old record was 58 minutes beating it by 6 minutes. I walked on the treadmill at a 4 degree incline and 3.2 speed. When I felt like it I sprinted at 6 mph for 1-2 minutes then went back to 3.2. Just those few sprints (like 3-4) got me .25 miles farther in 1 hour (.40km). I cant wait until I can run all 5k at 6mph. I am getting there. I was not too winded on the sprints I only stopped because I was so sick last week and did not want to push it too much.

Woot!

Happy monkeyImage by ChrisL_AK via Flickr
Ok I weighed myself this morning and I am back to 257. That is great because that is where I left off over a week ago before my wicked cold. I ate like a pig on several days and had 0 exercise for the week. I did sweat a bunch yesterday mowing my lawn with the reel mower.

So no motivation today other than awesomeness of being back on track!

Motivation: Be creative

A reel lawn mower, adapted from an illustratio...Image via Wikipedia
I think if you do the same thing every day while trying to burn calories it could get old quick. I found that mowing the lawn burns a bunch of calories.

The cool thing is my lawnmower died. How is that cool? Well I got a REEL Mower (spelled that way). Its like the old ones from when my parents were kids. You push it and it cuts the grass how novel! Anyway doing my 1/4 acre yard burned 390 calories and took 30 minutes. About the same as a light walk on the treadmill. Not bad and the lawn looks great and I used 0 gas and no emissions! Has a really cool scissor sound.
So, if your old lawnmower is on the fritz I recommend dumping it and going old school!

The point is you dont always have to run or jump rope or whatever it is that you are doing when not sitting on the couch. Just get up and do something beyond the norm and you will find calories melting away.
This is the one I bought:
