Weight report 1

So when I weighed myself at the beginning I was 269.66 lbs (I weighed myself at work on a calibrated scale). Yesterday I weighed myself and I am 261.21 lbs. So thats 8.45 lbs in 2 weeks. In my humble opinion thats too fast, but I figure that I will plateau at some point around 200 anyway.

Work in progress

So this sensor thing has given me a neat idea to try out next run. Today I tried a new position and it read even less. I ran for 1 hour for a distance of 11km. I was hauling butt. The sensor only registered 1.55 km and 190 or so calories. Being frustrated about this has given me a great idea to make it work next time. I am going to make something that may work on all eliptical machines with the Nike+. I made a prototype out of tape and Ill post my results next time (tomorrow).

Sensor is letting me down...

So today I ran for 1 hour. The distance on the machine was 8.9 miles. The distance on my ipod was 1.8 miles. The calories burned on the machine was 680 cal. On the ipod it is only 380cal. At this point I will continue of course but have to work out just where to put the sensor. I moved it today to the end of the arm thinking it would travel farther per revolution which it does, it however doesnt sense movement as well so it looks like I am standing still almost the entire time. I think tomorrow I may move it closer to my feet and see what happens. According to the machine since I started exercising 2 weeks ago I have covered 50 miles. Thats over 100km. Ill keep posting my Nike+ data here but in my opinion I have beat my goal already.

Little jog today, 1 hour tomorrow

Walked 1 mile each way to work from parking lot and also used the stairs all day. I only could run 25 mins due to time constraints.

Here is todays mild jog:

The error in my way...

My sensor fell off 3x during this run. So the data is all poo. Here is the data from the elliptical machine readout:
8.45 miles
491 calories
11 mph avg
47 Minutes

compare that to this:

Great run with a fun finish!

So today I did yoga in the morning for 1 hour. I have a pretty bad cold and some of the balance maneuvers caused me to topple over. When I got home from school I was whipped. I took a nap for 1 hour and when I got up decided I better get my butt in gear. I told myself I was going to run for 45 minutes. My previously longest run was 36 minutes. I did the full 45 after the first 15 I felt pretty good with no cold issues preventing me from going on. At the end of the workout my Nike+ told me all my data like usual and then Lance Armstrong piped in and said I did a great run! Awesome!

Nike + kit

If your interested in the kit I am using click the Nike+ kit link above or here:
Nike+ Kit
You will need an iPod Nano: Any color will do...
iPod Nano 8GB Black
And possibly a belkin arm band (although not required)
Belkin Sports Armband

Its a bit of an investment but in my opinion a bunch cheaper than a membership to a gym and less painful than heart surgery.

Super Bowl Sunday sprint

I just got off of work and decided to do a quick sprint on the elliptical machine. I knew I would spend the rest of the day on the couch so I banked a few calories to offset the pizza binge.

Starting to run (sorta)

Here is my situation. I am 36 year old male and morbidly obese. I am 5'7" tall (in the morning) and 266 pounds. I carry the weight well due to genetics, however I am fat. No bones about it. My goal is to lose 100 pounds by January 1 2009. Its a steep goal but I figure it is better to shoot for the top of the mountain. If I fail on the way up, it will still be a good view. I got the go -ahead from my doctor who did blood workup and an EKG on me to check my ticker. Its all good so here I go.

I started using my elliptical machine last week. I bought an iPod sports kit and found out it would not work with my iPod video. At the same time my daughter may have thrown the video away anyway. So I bought a new Nano. Its sexy and very light. Got an armband and started using the elliptical machine. I ran 4 miles (via machine readout) and found out the little Nike+ sensor wouldn't read the run due to the sensor only registering hits on the ground.

Today I tried something new. I got the idea to tape the sensor on the arm of the machine near the back. It travels now like a foot in motion and at the bottom of the swing it hits, so now I am getting a reading on my iPod. Very cool. Due to the interface that comes with the Nike+ kit I can track the runs via a website.

Those who know me know I am a real geek. Anything techy gets me going. To that end I bought the gear listed above. If I can keep myself motivated to exercise via a web interface then cool. My first 2 runs did not register on the sensor, but my 3rd one today did. Because Its working now I can set goals. Only problem is my goals I set today after my run did not register the previous effort. Ahh well. So if you check my first post you can see how I am doing via a spiffy flash tracker.

Time to go shower. Thanks for looking.
